Farm Education at Freshwise Farms - 2012 Offerings
We aim to empower individuals to be excited and informed navigators of their food system.
The Education Program at Freshwise Farms was created to explore and investigate the ways that food, human health, culture, and the environment intersect to keep us alive every day.
We do this through a myriad of seasonal, age-appropriate activities that complement our full-scale production farm in Penfield, NY.
Student Workshops for Grades K-12
Students will be lead through a series of hands-on, exploratory learning activities that delve into the heart of our complex food system.
Each workshop is lead by our on-site farm education coordinator and has been made to meet the learning standard requirements of NYS educators. We offer 4 topic choices, each of which include lessons tailored to meet the needs of students of different ages. You may choose to focus on food production, sustaining the environment, building personal health, or understanding behavior and culture.
We offer a wide range of activities during workshops, including soil-testing science experiments, farm-wide scavenger hunts, planting lessons you can take home, hydroponic demonstrations, songs and games for younger students, and in-depth discussion-based exercises for older students.
